Default 8.8 3 channel abs

keep your fingers crossed I'm working with a guy to make a 106 tooth abs ring that will work with the 8.8 housing. if it works i'll see how many I can get and how much it will cost for those who want to do the 8.8 swap and keep the 3 channel abs.

I've already read both of those a few weeks back. I meet a guy who said he loves a good challenge so I gave him the ford ring and asked him to make me one the same size but with 106 teeth. I got the abs wiring diagram for the explorer and the Camaro and took the ford sensor and wired it to a spare gm harness. this may or may not work but I'm going to give it that ole college try. what do I got to loose?

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd chine in anyway.

The stock tone ring is 106 tooth, while the ford 8.8 is 108, that's a 1.8% increase. Considering the abs is basing wheel speed on the time between each tooth (not all teeth) this should have the same effect as running LARGER wheels up front and SMALLER wheels in the back.

As it stands my tires are 2% larger in the back than the front. I have zero abs issues.

If I installed the stock 8.8 tone ring, my rear wheels will be approximately 0.2% slower than the front according to the abs and I should NOT get an abs light (assuming a 3% abs threshold, I've read abs complaints as low as 4.4% tire size differential front to rear). But if I squared up my tires I don't see an issue arising as that would put me under my current 2% differential.

Any one else have thoughts on this? I'm considering an 8.8 swap and this is one of the issues I'm seeing.

has anyone done this with the ford sensor? vs making the GM sensor fit and work with the larger reluctor ring?

MWC fabricated 9" rear 3 channel ABS is plug and play.... just saying. We also manufacture retrofit kits for other 9" rears as well that were never equipped with it originally.

I just got mine finished. I just cut the ears off and ground the housing down enough to get the gm sensor close enough to the reluctor wheel. No lights so far. Only about 25 miles on it so far though.

I just welded a 108 tooth 8.8 abs reluctor 0n my 9" gear set, works perfectly for the first hundred miles. No lights or strange activity yet. 3 channel 1994 z28 using the oem sensor original reluctor tooth was 106 teeth

I've successfully used a stock 8.8 tone ring on 3 channel fbody setup with stock fbody 3 channel sensor, and 4 stock tires, also with drag 26" radials out back. Stock 8.8 is only off by (from memory) 2 or 3 teeth.
