Default Best rearend for me?

So, I installed a 3.73 gear in my stock rearend at the end if the summer last year. Unfortunately due to me driving my car daily, the differential is junk now. Turns out we had an early thaw and the car was sitting in water that turned into 2" of ice. Now the rear is whining like crazy and the diff makes some crazy squealing when the tires spin. I'm pretty sure the clutches are shot. So now the thought is I can completely withstand the roughly 600-700 hp the car will see a few years down the road, but if I'm going to spend $1200 doing that, what can I get a solid 12 bolt for? Or is it cheaper to get an s60 or 9"? I'm thinking the most want to spend is $2000 with a driveshaft included. Is this reasonable?

Currently the car is a stock engined 93 z. Eventually it will get a heart transplant. I also currently daily drive the car, but next fall there will be a new to me vehicle to drive for winter so a spool is not totally out of the question.

Hit me with your best recommendations, sponsors are welcome.

For 2k you're not going to find any NEW rear ends. The least expensive will probably be a S60 with a spool, around $2500 or so with drive shaft and that is with out of state purchase and you pick it up at Strange in Mortgage Grove.

For a while now there has been a 9" on craigslist in St.Charles, 3rd gen width, for $1800.

I noticed that earlier today. I don't think I'm wanting the 4.56 gear tho. It would kill me with my baby 26" tires I have. I suppose I could get a new ring and pinion, but I'm really not feeling the whole idea of setting up gears if I don't have to.

Decisions, decisions.

Used 12 bolts seem to go for around $1500-1800 around here. 9 inch rears about the same or a tad less depending on center section and s60s don't come around enough for me to know. For your budget, and a keen eye, you could score a really nice used unit. It may take a little time to find the right deal though.

Good news is I just found a moser 9" with 500 miles on it locally. Bad news is it has 4.10 gears. Since I only have 26" tires, I'm going to be right at redline going over the stripe. Luckily, next year I can switch to 28" tires and bring it back to the same as having 3.73's. Just means no spray this year, as I won't have the RPM left in the tune. Oh well, it'll keep the wife happy tho.

So the used route has left me null and void, but I've found what I think is a good deal. $2300 out the door for a 9" with a trutrac and 31 spline axles. No shipping needed since it's a local shop (non-sponsor). Just waiting in a response from another local place. I guess I'll have my answer tomorrow.

Yeah that sounds decent. I'd shoot for 33 spline if it was me.

Right now I'm stock engined LT, so I don't think I'll hurt it for a long time. Upgrading down the road is always an option, and really shouldn't be needed until after the big engine is built. And for the price, I really can't complain.
