Ring and Pinion gear questions and other questions

I have a 2002 Trans Am and it currently has 3.23 gears in the rear end. The car is 4 speed auto. The car is only street driven and sees some highway use. Will going to 3.73 gears affect driveability a lot?

Next questions. My old lady has a 6 speed '99 Camaro SS. It is mildy modded with 3.73 gears, SLP air box lid, Tube by Frost, Speed Engineering headers, offroad y pipe back to Flow Master exhaust and an LS6 intake manifold. All my WS6 has right now is long tube headers. My car has to be faster than hers. I want to do the same mods her cars has, minus the ls6 intake since its there already. I will probably add a mild cam and bigger throttle body. Should this be enough to make my car faster than hers? I just got my car a week ago and she is already talking shit cause her car is faster.

What's your time frame and budget?

There have been great gains with cam only. An eps cam is well known to work with stock ls1 parts without heads if your budget is a factor. But it'd really bring it to life with your headers. just a start ^

I'd say gears would net you the most inexpensive gain on your old lady. I would do that first.

Theres not really a time frame or budget in mind. I don't want to do any headwork or anything like that. I want to keep the car mildly modded. I did a little reading about the eps cam and that's the one I had in mind. Her car wont be getting modded any more, so once Im faster, Im good.

How much does tuning affect downshifting in the auto trans? It feels like the car takes forever to downshift when I get on the gas hard. Almost like the computer needs to think about what it wants to do. I don't think its a tranny problem since everything else with the transmission works perfectly otherwise.

gears and a stall.... get the speed engineering 1-7/8ths and a tsp TDs...

grab yourself a lid and a 228r cam and race her for sexual favors

mike3800 12-17-2014 05:19 PM

Whats a tsp TDs?

FirstYrLS1Z 12-17-2014 05:43 PM

do you wanna be faster from a dig OR faster from a roll ???

mike3800 12-18-2014 02:44 PM

I want both. I think Im going to steal her SLP airbox lid and put my stock airbox on her car. She will never know.

Uh, how old is your "old lady"? If she's not really old, I'd think twice before burning that bridge. Lids aren't that expensive.

:D

Which car is more loaded up with options, or are they the same?? (In other words WEIGHT differences.)

The WS6 TAs are a little heavier, even given similar options, if I remember correctly, due to more bodywork, and more standard 'conveniences'.
