It sounds like my plans should be for a 3.73 and 3500ish stall to maximize while retaining the drivability and commuting friendliness the car has.

Christmas is coming...
I would do the stall first, drive it for a bit and see how you feel. Even with 2.73s, some of us find that we aren't bothered by the looseness of a high quality ~3500 stall speed. At that point, 3.73s would only get you an extra tenth or two of ET reduction, so the only real benefit would be the tighter part throttle feel - if you find you're one of the folks who is bothered by the 2.73s. If not, then you'd be better off using that cash for something else until/unless you need an entirely new rear, at which point you can select an ideal ratio for your intended purposes.

As for "commuting friendliness", if this commute includes highway driving, you'd be better off sticking with the 2.73s as MPG will be exactly the same with the higher stall speed and stock gears once you reach lock-up speeds.

I just stalled my 00 WS6 with a Yank 3200. Has 3:23 gears. I had a street tune done to account for the convertor. Car is a beast now. I can burn rubber for 50 feet. Passing on the street or highway is thrilling.

Listen to RPM WS6 and don't spend money you don't need to.
