Default Rear gear oil

New gear set says to use 80w90. I'd like to follow the instructions. But 80w90 is not a very common oil at my stores. They have Mobil 1 in 75w90. Will that work the same. It's synthetic btw

75w90 is a broader range so yes it will work. Synthetics last longer under normal conditions and hold up a bit better under abuse. If you race stick to the recommended fluid change intervals to keep it all fresh.

If you go with the Mobil 1 synthetic, that is all you will need. It already has the LS additive in it

This is an important consideration. For example, the stock '98 rear calls for conventional oil due to the Auburn LSD. Changing gears won't change this requirement. If you have a Torsen LSD, then synthetic is fine.

Thumbs up

I use straight 140W dino oil in Sara (2001 Z28).

She loves me for it.
