When removing the bearing using a cut off wheel is correct but all You should cut is the wedding ring. When He said "Cutting wheel and when she's awfully close just use a chisel" He should probably have warned You to be very careful to not let the cutting wheel make any contact with the axle or it is junk!

The chisel will crack the wedding ring and it will slide off, then press the bearing off like any other bearing.

When install the new bearing press the bearing on then do the wedding ring. Do not attempt doing them together.
