Whats the better of 2 options for a heavy turbo car w/4L80E?
Hello
I have a '98 single turbo TA. 402/S484/E85 setup. I have a Strange 12 bolt in it with 3.73's right now from my old nitrous days. Since I'm shopping for new slicks, I got thinking about what would be the best tire/gear for my new combo. Here's some data:
Was 3600# before the turbo/piping went in, so it's pretty near full weight.
4L80e trans with Circle D 3400(ish) turbo converter
BMR/Spohn/QA1 single adjustable suspension
Shift points in the 6300-6400 range.
I'm looking to trap at most, low 140's in the 1/4.
I ran the numbers through a gear/tire calculator and found 2 pairings that could work.
3.42 gear with 28" tire, 3-4 shift at 143
3.23 gear with 26" tire, 3-4 shift at 140
I think the calculator included about 8% slip through the TC.
I didn't see an ideal combo for 27" tire without leaving too much on the table.
I would kinda like to stick with 26" tires, admittedly out of ignorance. I don't remember if you can go between different tire sizes without having to flash in a new tune.
I know a taller tire is better for going the fastest, but I don't have the safety gear to run faster than 10.000 without constantly getting kicked off the track, so...
At this point/power level, do I pretty much need to go taller? Or is there a better combo? Anyone else running something similar?
Any input's appreciated
