You guys who have replaced your rear pinion seal

2002 uses a two piece seal, the piece that goes into the housing has a larger ID and it had a piece that slides over the yoke.
All 7.5 seals are the same from when they were first put out until 2002.
If you use an older seal you need to take the part off the pinion.
Last time I checked the parts stores didn't have the 2002 and up seal. they will give you the old one, when you install that with the yoke seal on the yoke it'll rip the rubber out and it'll leak.
Point is, for a 2002 and up go to the dealer or take the piece off the yoke and use the older seal, 2001 and down, any parts store should have the older style.

I had a slight leak in mine and had it replaced at the dealership in Jan of this year when it was time to change the differential fluid. They charged very little extra. It was done with the right GM part and done well.

I'd go with the GM replacement unless you have a auto store you absolutely trust. I think it just depends on how much you want to spend. Every store varies. I have usually opt out of auto stores such as O'Reilly and Napa, but that is just my personal opinion.

I just took what they gave me in the Ratech master
kit. Those guys ought to know, I guess.
Question you should ask before getting all excited is,
"why is my pinion seal leaking?". Because simple wear
at 15Kmiles shouldn't be it. But crush collar being
pounded slack over time / abuse, or driveline imbalance
/ driveline angle issues, those will cause weepage and
will not be fixed by new rubber. Not for long, at best.
Might check the pinion play first and see if you're up
against something more.

Ratech sends the earlier style seal. If you have a late 01 or 02 you cannot use the seal that comes with a ratech kit. Or at least every Ratech kit I have ordered has been like this.

You can use the old design seal if you pull the rubber sleeve off the yoke, nut you need to make sure and polish that surface extremely well with some emory cloth or it will for sure leak again. If you look close you will see ridges and machine marks on the yoke when you pull the sleeve off. or simply go to GM and get teh right seal.
