Default Zr2 rear axle swap. Anybody else?

I swapped in the 8.6 ZR2 rear axle from a 1999 S10 Blazer into my 3Rd gen Camaro. Axle was 1.5 inches wider total WMS TO WMS. It's about 3 inches narrower than a 4th gen. It only has leaf spring brackets ro remove an only comes with disc brakes and 3.73 gear ratio and GM gov loc posi and 30 spline axles. Swap out the posi for a locker or true track and you have a very stout rear axle assembly. I am pretty sure you can get a 33 spline axle and spool upgrade for diehard drag racers.

So how are you attaching the torque arm?

I built a 3 link suspension with coilovers for road racing. A underling torque arm could be adapted using a plate mounted to rear cover or use uncoupled torque arm.

where there is a will there is a way.

I saw someone do this with a 9" one time. It did not work well at all at the drag strip. The car ended up parted out because of it. I am curious as well how it works for you.

my car and the 3 link rear suspension is designed for road racing and not drag racing. That being said I have just recently got the car street worthy and put about 100 miles on it in test drives. The suspension works very well so far . I will really put it to the test next summer when I take it autox and road racing.

the ZR2 axle is much stronger than the camaro axle. It is the same as used in GM 1/2 ton trucks. ZR2 axles all came with 30 spline axles, a 3.73 gear and the gov lock posi.

ws6, to put in a 3 link is a major task. However the 8.6 only has 2 brackets welded to it that need cut off and then you could weld on the brackets from a 7.5 axle. You would have to come up with some kind of a torque arm mount though. Probably a plate that bolts to rear cover like a TCI torque arm kit.
