Needs Pic's Of Backing Plates Installed
 

Anyone have a pic of a backing plate installed on a nine inch rear end for a 4th get Camaro? 1998 Camaro. Bought my rear end from Brute Speed( Moser nine inch. Brakes not lining up correct and I'm thinking backing plates r on wrong.

Bill, the backing plates should be stamped L & R. Bob

I'm sure I seen that on them. Dust shield I did away with as well as parking brake. The backing plates holes for the caliper is facing toward the front of the car. Rotors will not line up straight. Maybe the person i bought the car from put a different caliper on the car? Something is wrong.. Don't know?

Look for pn#'s on the parts and do an internet search for them. You should be able to find out what you have. Bob

I know one thing this is one set up i wish i have never bought! I haven't had nothing but problems from day one and still having problems. Every damn thing is new and installed correct and the rear end moves to the right and left depending on which why u turn. I adjusted it again this morning and it moved and crushed my drivers side lower rocker. I can't see a damn reason for the rear end to move left to right or right to left when making a turn. It's not the axel the whole rear end is moving. I guess ill have to have it towed to a chassis shop and see if they can figure it out! I'm tired of laying on a hard ass garage floor. It shouldn't be this difficult to do!

The panhard bar is what keeps the rear centered and provides lateral location of the axle. I can't see your problem being anything else but with the panhard bar. Bill, give me a call tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon, I'll help you get it figured out. Bob

Sorry Bob car is getting under my skin a little.LOL. You are correct and I'm leaning toward the pan hard bar or the mounting points that the pan hard bar connects to are weak. Working Sunday but will keep u updated

Yep everything looks the same as mine other than the sway bar which i don't have one on it.

Bill, you might try having someone rock the car side to side while you're looking under it to see if you can locate the problem. Thanks. Bob

Thanks Bob i did order another new pan hard bar and put it on last night but haven't tested it yet but i noticed how thin and weak the mounting spot looks where it mounts to on the body of the car. To me it seems pretty thin and weak which i just might take some heavy steel and cut to the same size and weld it in its place.

I've never had a problem with the factory mount and I doubt that is the problem. I'd have someone rock the car side to side while you're under there to see what is going on. Thanks Bill. Bob

Went over the car with a fine tooth comb found nothing that could cause this problem so i had a friend stop by and watch the rear end while i tried backing out of driveway and as i was turning rear end moved into lower rocker panel doing damage before he got me to stop. The only thing that makes any sense at this point is the lower control arms. One end has a heimjoint and other end has a bushing and we think that the bushing is flexing enough to allow the rear end to move. We are thinking that having a spool in the car both ends of the lower control arms need to have a heimjoint. How much will the rear end move or shift with a spool? I have 15 inches tires on the car and theres only enough room to stick your finger in between the opening and tire?

My buddies 2002 trans am has a spool in his Dana 60, 28" slicks and BMR lower control arms with poly bushings on both ends and the rear doesn't move going around turns or even come close to the body. Something is either wrong with your bushings in the control arms or you have another problem.

Also if your car is lowered and you are running a bigger tire maybe you need adjustable lower Ontario arms to move you rear tires back so they don't rub. Maybe take a picture of both rear tires and post so we can see the clearance on both sides

Control arms are brand new UMI never made it out of the driveway yet! LOL

Thanks tires can't go back or forward anymore than they are. Even front to back in between the QTR's and rockers being able to slide your fingers between the QRT and tire. Probably one inch clearance on front and rear.
