Hawks Mororsports 8.8?
I have a 00 WS6 with H/C/I and Performabuilt Level 2 trans with FTI 9.5 Billet 3600 stall...My stock 10 is getting tired! I have 143k miles on, not many miles since the engine upgrades, but Im worried about taking it to the track with DR on it...Have been looking at the Strange 12 bolt then ran across the Hawks 8.8....Is anyone running one of them? I know 90% is gonna say just put a 9" in it...The Hawks with Moser 33 splines and posi runs 2k compared to Strange 12 at lil over 3k....Im putting around 475 to the wheels so to me a 9" would be overkill...If the Hawks are a good option, I would rather spend the other grand on other supporting mods....Just curious as if anyone has ran one etc...Oh, and the car is 85% street with the occasional trip to the track to make a few passes...I run street tires except when she goes to the track
Thanks!
Thanks!

I didn't calculate cost from the options page on their website, just talked to the guy on the phone...He said it was 2100 for everything, but of course that wasn't going with all the top end stuff...Im def going to call and get an exact list of parts he was talking about for that price..

I very well could be, and if that's the case I would def rather pay a little more and get the Strange...I would just buy the backing plates from Hawk and send them in to Stange so I don't have 3-4 weeks down time by taking mine off and sending them in

I agree if they are both about the same price (and I'm almost positive they are) I'd probably just go with the 12 bolt at that point. I think you can go on their site and spec it out for yourself

31 spline is good up to 700ish flywheel maybe a bit more. For the price of an s12 an s60 is a better choice and leaves room for a power adder in the future. A moser 9 with 31 spline, truetrac and axles with a quality carrier should be good for around 600 at the very least. Honestly if your making more the worry would be shock load. If your on radials I doubt it will break. If your on slicks and a transbrake pushing 800+ id consider a spool and the largest axles you can get. Brutespeed sells a good 9" and offer a wavetrac for only 2800 shipped. Quick performance sells what I hope to be (hard to find negetice reviews) of a 9" with a custom fab housing for 2500 shippied. But thats with a truetrac. I decided to give quicks a shot. Hell if Farmtruck uses them they cant be all that bad.

My mwc 9" was around $3,800 with s-trac, back brace, powder coat and 35 spline axles. Not much more when you consider it comes with a torque arm and trans brace. With those components its only about 10lbs more than the stock setup, and that's with an iron center. The hawks 8.8 is heavy, for me weight is important. Expensive but i only wanted to do it once.

What people have to think about is the differentials and strength. We have sold and tested almost every single differential on the market and there is a reason we drop one or add another one and it has zero to do with pricing and everything to do with longevity.
We get 100's of different differentials a year as we buy in bulk of course and it is not uncommon for a manufacture to cut corners on their product and once they do we drop them.
This is the reason we no longer offer a Truetrac, Detroit Locker, or a clutch style posi. Same goes for some cases we used to offer. after many years of doing this we know what will and what will not last over time and then drop it from our line of products.
We are not limited to one manufacturers product and this has to make you think about why others will offer it but a company focused on performance and longevity does not even though they used to. I say that because we can purchase and are direct with everyone that offers ring and pinions, differentials, cases, bearings, axles, and so on.
All differentials have their place but a torque arm vehicle is a different animal all together and can not be compared to a vehicle that does not use a torque arm. I would use a Truetrac in a Mustang but not in a F-Body and the same goes for a clutch style posi or anything else that does not have a beefed up differential case.

You really only what to go with an 8.8 for a autocross/road course build. Even then for autocross/road course a 10-bolt is fine.
For an 8.8 in a straight line there are much cheaper 8.8 options out there than hawks. I have ran across several on facebook that will build them depending on what you need it to handle.
