Default 9” rear end make?

Hey guys,

So I just bought a 99 Camaro z28. The car has an aftermarket 9” rear end. The owner had NO idea the brand of rear end. I got under the car today and snapped a few pictures (bad quality). I also noticed on the rear end it had ME - 008 stamped on it. Maybe a MOSER? Any help is appreciated.

Also trying to determine the gear ratio. I think he had the speedo calibrated for the new gears cuz it’s only
off like 2km/h. When doing 100km/hr or 60 miles/hour it’s sitting at 2100 rpm with a 275/40R17 tire. Any guesses on the ratio? Car is an A4.

Unless it's different from a stock A4 Trans Am, it's a 2.73...which is what I have.

Did you know the rear was aftermarket before you bought it?

Why would you assume a Moser 9 inch rear would have a stock gearset?

To the OP, sounds like it has 3.73 based on my past experiences with rpm/mph

Guess I wasn't thinking. Of course it would not have a 2.73:1.

Did a little research, it is a Moser 9” with 373 I believe with rpm/mph. Taking it out soon to pull apart!

Well I got my car up on the hoist today and found a serial tag on the center section showing “Strange Engineering” and a serial number. Is it likely that strange would have specific information on this center section? Also is this common to have a Moser housing with strange center section?

You never know, someone could have pieced the rear together.

and that’s exactly what it appears someone did! Moser housing, strange center section and bear pro axles ... I have the rear pulled apart just haven’t taken the center section out. I believe it’s a spool 👎 and the axles are 35 spline.
