Swap a carrier and it's guts 7.5 ten bolt torsen
I have collected a few spare ten bolt carriers over the years (my old LT1 m6 used to shred ring and pinions and I would just buy complete 10 bolt rears for it) to play with and I was wondering if the internals from the 2 and 3 series are the same. Can I put the insides of a 2 series torsen in a 3 series just like the with the Auburn style?
Also can I just swap out a carrier with another one and leave the same shims if the gears are still fine and were set up ok?

At one point you could not even take a Thorsen diff apart without sending it back to them to get it reassembled ,, there was a jig that held the gears though the side holes to make sure they were timed correctly. I think they fixed that.. True Tracks should not be disassembled for similar reasons.. YMMV..

Most of the time, yes. Check/record the 'lash' of the current setup, install replacement carrier and check lash. ALSO best to do a 'pattern check' before and after too.

I went ahead and swapped my broken torsen carrier for a good used Auburn one I had without really checking anything. It seems about tight enough and even quieter than before but I could be crazy. I'm still going to pop the girdle back off and double check the backlash when i can borrow a dial indicator before I try another set of sticky tires
