Default Ford 9 inch bearing direction

Hey guys what's happenin?? I'm getting ready to assemble this QP 9 inch rear for my 3rd gen and I'm wondering which way these bearings get pressed on. Is it seal towards the brakes or towards the rear?? And do these bearings need an inner axle seal?? Thanks for your time guys

Nobody has answered you. I don't really know which way the bearing goes in or if it matters. I think on mine the seal was inboard. That seal looks like my bearing and it seals the bearing, it doesn't seal the axle. I had an axle seal... and I applied rtv to the outside of that bearing and in between the axle and the adapter plate. If you don't do this, I'm pretty sure it will leak at some point because the axle seal isn't that effective.

The O-Ring goes toward the wheel. It is quite common for the wheel bearings to not have an o ring. In this case you simply use silicone sealer (RTV) around the outer edge of them prior to installing the axles into the housing.Bob

You want to use the inner wheels seals unless you're using Timken wheel bearings. Timken wheel bearings needs to be lubricated and inner wheel seals prevent the bearings from getting the necessary lubricant. Bob
