Default How much HP on a stock driveshaft?

Im waiting on the new Fab 9 from MWC to be completed, and will be ordering a new strange DS in the near future. Im curious as to how my hp the stock driveshaft can/will take? Im swapping the Spicer u joint out with the precision 447 in the meantime to get the new diff broken in properly...Its an A4 with a little over 500 to the wheels...

Well. If you're talking about the alum. driveshafts in the 4th gens. I've had friends rip those things in two pieces with pretty mild H/C combos. But that's with the M6. As the auto trans should be a little easier on them but you're making some power with over 500 to the wheels. I'd say play it safe. Sorry as I can't give any real hp numbers for you. Good luck.

Its the alum DS from factory...I have only changed out the U joints in it to spicer...Im going to put the 477 in it for now just to get the break in procedure on the new Fab9...MWC has the strange chromoly shaft for like $335...I read somewhere that one was good for up to 700hp, but cant remember where I read it...Im running a FTI 9.5 Billet 3600 stall and wanted to at least make one pass before getting a new ds but may hold off until I get a decent one.

Nice. Yes I have the spohn chrome moly DS. Should be good. Yea, not saying you can't do a pass. As the alum. DS would usually break on a hard shift in a M6 car. Still I'd play it safe. Maybe someone with an auto & more experience with them will chime in.

I have an automatic car...footbraked to a very loud and embarrassing (stock, aluminum) driveshaft explosion last time to track...Did fine until that last 50 more nitrous jet, lol...My car (near stock 6.0, w/200 shot) has only been low 11's, 122-123mph, but at 3885# race weight, and no progressive nitrous, (and a 250 shot), it didn't survive...it was fine all year with 200 or just on motor using transbrake...

Even so, I should have my new 9" rear installed this weekend and 100% plan to re-use another stock driveshaft w/1350 conversion joint at the pinion, but also 100% am NOT spraying it until I get a new, quality driveshaft from one of the vendors here, or a local place to me that does a ton of race stuff...

For break-in, and some street fun, I'd have no problem running it, but that's it for me...didn't do any damage underneath thanks to the loop, but not worth the risk of tearing up your car IMHO...

Yes. Like a huge toilet paper roll, lol.

I was told it is for sound deadening, from the factory.

Make sure you're running a DS loop regardless of the which shaft you're running, but especially if you're running the stocker.

I thought it was not necessary with carbon fiber? I passed tech at the track anyway...
