Hey everyone,

I have a 9" rear end in my 4th gen. Didn't know anything about it until I pulled the carrier unit out. I now know it has 3.89 gears and 31 spline axles, but I was wondering if anyone has any idea what these numbers stand for. Also, I was wondering if anyone knows what the typical spline count is on the pinion yoke. I see a couple options, but it seems most use 28 spline. I suppose I could just pull it off and check, but any info on that would be appreciated since I will be buying a new one to run a 1350 setup. Pics of rear end are below. Sorry for the hotdog pics.

BL = back lash of .008
42 EG13 is the gear set of 42/13 = 3.23 gears.

Thanks for the quick response. None of my friends could figure it out. I'm definitely glad I manually calculated the gear ratio instead of going off of that code.
