Default Check out my ring gear marking compound pattern...

12 Bolt GM rear. Changed out everything so started from scratch. Richmond 4.11 pinion called for 2.785” which I believe I now have (homemade measuring method). Preload at 20in/lb which is what Richmond calls for. Backlash calls for .007-.009” and between different gears I’m getting avg of .0085”

coast is a little high, drive looks good. I would add .002 to the pinion shim to see if the cost will center a little better. But, that is an acceptable pattern, just may have a little decel whine.

thanks so much for your valuable opinion. I ended up adding more pinion last night and wound up with this.

The first pic, it way to far to one side. you want both sides centered.

I agree , Add another .002 to the pinion and see if the drive contact moves to the heal some . This should bring the coast and drive side closer together as well . Trying to get both sides across from each other closer than what they are . If looks better , may have to go up or down on b/l .

Here's the thing, not all gears center on both sides at the same time. The last set of pics will be quiet. I realize the drive is a bit towards the edge but its still acceptable. The more you center it, the more the coast is gonna go off. Gotta pick the best evil with some gearsets and let it ride. Some set up beautiful and you are greatful. One reason I always recommend Motive.
