Quick question about 4.10's I am getting a t-rex cam this winter probably and i want to throw in 4.10 gears in my stock 10bolt. If i never launch hard, will putting in the 4.10 hurt anything? will they grind out fast? |
The 4.10's are a little thinner I believe and are more susceptible to being broken. There's no way to really predict it... you might never break it or it could go the first time. |
If you don't launch it should be fine. Also, I wouldn't bring it up to 6500 RPM constantly. These 10 bolts are a tricky matter; you never know when they will brake. -Todd |
if you don't use slicks the weak link will be the tires. they will spin before you stress the rear too much. better to spin than to break a rear |
Mine sounds like crap 5K clutch dumps on slicks has mine whining like B*****,money is ready for a 9" when it finally goes. |
As long as the gears are set up CORRECTLY, you should be fine. The 4.10's for a 10 bolt still have some meat on them BTW. I would strongly advise that if you go this route, use full synthetic gear oil, and give them a healthy break in period of minimum 500 miles. |
A 4.10 will multiply more torque than say a 3.42, so it will definetly put more stress on the diff and axles. But like said before, if you treat it easy it should be fine. |
