Default I think I might have a serious problem (pics)

I took the cover off my rear-end today to change the axle bearing and this is what I saw. It's only on this side of the dif, the other side appears to be fine. Is this as bad as it looks like it is?

Check the pinion and everything else to make sure it is tight. It looks like the pinion hit the case, so make sure it is tight and preloaded.

Exact same thing happened to me once. I made it about 1 mile, then the rear wouldn't even turn. Carrier was in 3 pieces.

i sent ring gear teeth throught the bottem of the housing in my stock 2.73 rear in my 89 and that was only at 40 mph
and all the oil drain out of the case and i still drove it home hahaha
it was only like 2 miles but it made it home and went into reverse then drive again then it would not move any more but by that time it was in the driveway....then i got a 9-bolt...what i piece of shiet

best rear i had was a combo of 2 rears
posi and 3.73 gears out of a rear with bent axles and a 3.23 non-posi disc brake rear
i reused all the shims even the crush collor and is never made a peep so damn quite but the posi went soon after

sorry for being long haha just had to get that off my chest
