Stock alum vs. steel D.S. question? Need help!
 

Is anyone running around 500rwhp and torque through the stock alum driveshaft or would you reccomend an aftermarket one like a steel unit?

I would not expect the stock shaft to last very long at that power, especially if the car hooks well.

I would put a better drive shaft in the car but it does not have to be steel. If not do not put sticky tires on the car unless you own a trailer.

Im only gonna run the new MT ET drag radials 275/40 17s...never slicks so i hope ill get away with it

If you hook up, you will preztel the stock driveshaft on 500rwhp... maybe it won't happen the first time, but it will eventually happen. The stock driveshaft wasn't designed to absorb the stress of hard launches and spinning above-stock rpms.

You can pick up a good quality high hp driveshaft for $300-$400... I'd do it since you've invested so much in the car already.

LOL, well put. I plan to push the envelope though, 413 rwhp on an M6 with MT DR's.

I'm launching at lower rpms with the Two Step, so I may buy me some time...

What about the stock steel driveshaft? Will that one hold up to some abuse? I know the aluminum won't, I already shredded that one.

Not sure on that one, but if I am going to swap out my DS, I want something above and beyond "stock."

The car is not near stock, so I wouldn't use a *stock* DS.

I know this thread is kind of old but instead of starting a new one, would anyone know if my stock aluminum driveshaft will hold up to the mods in my sig..(bolt ons, 233/.595 cam, moser 12 bolt with 4.10s)? and what driveshaft would you recommend for a 450rwhp (not on spray) that would see the track about 3 times a year at a launch of about 4000 rpm?

I'd upgrade to the Billingsley, or the Lingenfelter, or the Denny's. I have the Denny's driveshaft on similar mods to what you have... I'd rather be safe than sorry.

where did you purchase it from and what was the price? I'm a newbie to driveshafts.. don't know much about prices and all.. thank u!!

I bought mine used from a local guy... you should check with Billingsley Racing about their chrome moly driveshaft, as I believe they're having a sale on driveshafts right now... they're a sponsor, so look for the link over there ---------->

Got my CM shaft from Billingsly. It is a nice part.

thank you. i'm thinking about it and i might just go with the dennys nitrous ready seeing it is under warrenty for life so if it breaks or anything, they fix it... and i can get a good price on it but if that goes through then i'll probably god with that...
