Leaking Oily substance from differential

There is a nice patch of what almost looks like oil in my garage right underneath the rearend. What exactly is wrong?? Is there someplace on the outside of the rearend to add more fluid????????

Old brake fluid might look like oil... I belive brake lines run over the housing just a suggestion

If its rear end fluid, it will be dark, and smell REALLY bad(if its old). If its brake fluid, it will be almost clear w/ a brown hint to it. And of course tranny fluid will be reddish pink, but should be under the rear unless its running all the way down the driveshaft b4 dripping.

and yes, you should be able to add more rearend fluid. on the PS of the rear is a plug that will accept a 3/8 ratchet. just grab a 3/8 ratchet, add a 2" extension, and unscrew it. fill the hole full of fluid till it starts to run out of the hole you are fillig it in.(this will be a tricky process as there isnt much room under there.) when done. replug the hole.

Heres a suggestion. if you do decide to add more fluid, go ahead and just change it all. for one, you will already be under there, and the only extra cost is a little time, a gasket, fluid, and the time it takes to undo 10 more bolts.
