4.10's for the street ??

Thinking about putting 4.10 gears in my car. I'm not a big drag racer, but would like some advice on what to expect. Also, what's the best way to handle the speedo correction? My car is a '98 Z28 M6. Mods are ZR1's (9.5" front & 11" rear), Prokit, LCA's, LCA brackets, APHR, Ripper, STB. That's all that comes to mind right now. I've heard that this is one of the best mods for the buck.

The ROCK!!!!!!

4.10s are weaker, but if you dont race much, dont use slicks or ET Streets, you'll love them. It should pull harder everywhere on the street, from 0-130 or more.

I know 2 guys with 4.10s in M6s.

The 4.10s were one of my favorite mods on my 98, however I did break a set of them. It was my own fault due to misshifting (grabbing first instead of third twice in a row!) however the stock gears might've held up a bit more.

4.10s are great. I never broke mine but I think I was just lucky -100s of 5K rmp dumps on ET Streets
The only downside is the mod is expensive if you want to get your speedo right (HPP).
4.10s also negate the need for the skip-shift eliminator.

Definitely do the 4.10s! I've got them in my h/c SS. They were one of the first mods I did and they really woke the car up. Only lost 2-3 mpg on the highway, a little more on the street With the heads/cam though they really overpower the Nittos.

I actually only lost one mpg highway with my change to 4.10s. My best gas mileage with 3.42s was 31.0 (at 70mph in 6th) and at the same speed with 4.10s I got a best of 30.0 MPG.

They are great...just make sure you buy some sticky tires to go along with them..

Good point! I remember when I first got my 4.10s I tried in vain to make a 12 second pass with my car while still running GSCs. It was not that hard to launch but on the powershifts the car was all over the place, even on the 3-4 shift it would get tricky to handle. As soon as I put on drag radials I went 12.78 and then a week later in better weather went 12.68. With the 4.10s and GSCs I was stuck in the 13.0s and 13.1s.

4.10's are great!! If you do alot of stop and go, they are awesome. All around drivability of the car is improved. If you do a whole bunch of Highway driving, 6th gear comes in handy. MPG isn't really affected, in fact, my last road trip averaged about 27-29 mpg.

What kind of tires do you have on your ZR1's?? Traction w/out DR's can be a problem.

Re: 4.10's for the street ??

well here are some things to consider:
Gas Mileage
street race? Highway Racing? drag? Just crusin?
ihave them in my H+C car, and I have NO issues with them. I am a road racer, not drag racer, so they move my powerband up to a use-able range IEi can use 2nd, 3rd,and top out in 4th where as with the 3.42s i would only use 2/3, and only hit 5-6 at the end of the strait. i cruse at 65 with the needle @about 1800-2K rpm wise, and still manage 20-27 Mpg. HOWEVER, if you go past 125,the car falls on its face....cause 5th is overdrive, and it takes more power to turn and overdriven gear. so with that being said, should be able to make an educated guess as to what you want....got any Qs, drop me a line

I really like my 4.10's. One of my favorite mod's so far. It feel a lot quicker from the line and it still goes faster than anybody needs to go (130+ mph). Make sure you break them in properly: keep it under 50 mph and trips under 10 miles for the first 100 miles.

BTW, I used Hypertech Power Programmer III to adjust my speedo, tires are 25.7" high.
