Will a 95 3.42 carrier fit my 98 without any problems?
My 98 Z28 currently has a 2.73 gear and a friend has a complete rearend from his 95 trans am that had a 3.42 gear, (it was a 6 spd so i'm pretty sure thats whats in it). Can i take the carrier and gears and swap it into my housing without any problems? I believe his rear was equipped with abs as is mine. Thanks.

ttt...surely someone has an idea. Will i have to swap the reluctor rings on the carriers or what. I will consider buying the SLP unit but if this 95 carrier is the same i'll use it. Thanks..

I put a 95 3.42, abs, no tcs in my 98 T/A. It was much easier to just put the entire rearend in. Brake plates have to be twitched out and my studs were longer so I used my original axles.

Thanks for the reply Dean... I would swap rearends but the donor reared is bent so i'll just take the carrier and gears and swap it into my 98 housing.. My 98 has asr so will i need to take anything off of my 2.73 carrier? Not sure if the 95 rearend had it or not.

Hi there,
It should, but just remember, correct pinion depth, and backlash must be set again. Do not rely on the other installation in order to install the carrier.
Correct pinion preload is CRITICAL to good performance, and long life.
Preload is 30 inch lbs with a new set of bearings.
15 inch lbs if you use the old ones, which I do not recommend.
