is the 10 bolt good for mid 12's?

Stupid question I know. I will never run faster than mid 12's. i need to start thinking of getting a house soon and get out of debt :bang: . My rear end is fine but I just want to know if it is going to hold for a mid 12 second car.

black01_WS6 Mar 10, 2005 07:52 PM

all depends how you drive it but with a m6, et streets, and 4.10 gears I don't think it will last long, an automatic would last longer, but it all comes down to how you drive it.

TheBlurLS1 Mar 10, 2005 08:48 PM

if it has the stock gears in it, and you wont be running anything sticker than nittos, and dont run at the track too much, it would probably be pretty safe :D

if it blows, you can pick up a complete 10 bolt from this board for like 300 bux.

i have a m6 and i did alot of low and mid 12s on my 10 bolt with out a problem at all

launchin at 4000 on nittos and hookin like a bitch :burn:

APeteSS Mar 11, 2005 06:33 PM

Easy with those ET Streets

Krab Mar 11, 2005 06:56 PM

I agree with not using the ET streets. I blew my 10-bolt on 16" BFG's launching at 3500rpm. I guess you could try slipping the clutch on the launch, and that should have your 10-bolt last a while. Don't dump your clutch unless you are ready to fork some cash over for a new rear.

jerflash Mar 11, 2005 09:35 PM

i dumped mine with no problem because my clutch was doing the sliping on it own hahaha

HAMRHEAD Mar 11, 2005 11:00 PM

It should be ok as long as you dump it at high rpm's with those ET street's!

Sniper33 Mar 13, 2005 05:55 PM

I've got stock 10bolt with 3.73s and TA girdle. Ran 12.73 in 2003 on BFG DR's. Didn't heat them up too much so they didn't hook 100%, but very little spin at all. Rear is still going strong.

ULTIMATEORANGESS Mar 13, 2005 07:54 PM

i broke mine running low 13s and mid 12s. :bang:

2MuchRiceMakesMeSick Mar 14, 2005 05:13 AM

Some break some dont. Its really hard to say. DO NOT take it to the track with those DRs if you dont have the money for a 12bolt / 9".

Redlinez Mar 15, 2005 04:56 PM

I'd say there are plenty of 6 speed guys running 11's and A4 guys running low 11's with 10 bolts. I've been twice on BFG DR's (my first 2 times ever on dr's) and ran 12.1x's @ 118+. I've seen many people say they've run 1.6x 60 fts with 10 bolts. One trick to help it out is to let the clutch come out just enough to bind the drivetrain when you launch so as to not shock the rear so hard. Tip given to me by Trevor@TexasSpeed.

Sniper33 Mar 15, 2005 05:19 PM

Good tip Redlinez!

WJ SOM SS Mar 15, 2005 05:30 PM

65 1/4 mile passes and 11,000 miles. 4.10's, M&H 16"x26" good-hooking d.o.t.'s, M6 w/4,000 rpm launches. No breakage. 12.6's @ 110+. Life is short--Play hard... WJ

Redlinez Mar 16, 2005 06:16 AM

I launched at 3300 or so, planning on trying 3500-4000 next which should put me in the 11's. Cross my fingers.

CAMAROonROIDS Mar 18, 2005 11:28 AM

man got my car running 11.8s with 100 shot and a huge stall pulling like 1.7 60 foots on et streets with some crappy ass 2.73 gears. a4 terd.

SStheBest Mar 20, 2005 02:56 PM

i havent gone to the track yet and im hoping for 12's and i outta be there....and yea im a pretty decent driver....still on the stock 10 bolt and no whine......yet.....but yea as said previoulsy dont go to the track with nittos(in ur case if ur aiming for 12's) or ur bound to snap it in a few runs....just a known fact for most out there

01350ss Mar 20, 2005 08:49 PM

I over 250 1/4 mile passes with my stock 10 bolt and very hot bfg's. consistant low low 12's with a clutch dump fo 5k rpm's. no whine or chatter. replacing the rear with a 12 bolt this month as preventitve maintenance.

10secopcar Mar 21, 2005 01:52 PM

if u had an auto id say no prob as i have went top of 10s with mine several times. but my buddy has a m6 launched at 5000 with mcloud twin and 26 et drags and his lived for a lil while. but he was mid twelves. his only prob was he was stamping bearings
