We tried this 14 or so years ago. problem is you then put all the friction in the transmission. The TQ has to have a focal point. with the bigger(numerical) gear it becomes the tires and is easier on the reat of the Drive train. With the smaller gear the transmission and TC become the focal point.

Trust me ripping Input shafts out of TH400s is no fun We then welded a After market shaft into the drum....and I split it in half

the KEY for drag racing is to gear and tire for the optimal Terminal RPM. You know how hard the motor is spinning when you cross the line

So I guess what I am saying is I feel a 3.23 and a good stall is as low as I would go for the street

On the other side Top Fuel runn's a 3.20 gear(NHRA rule will not let then run any lower)and a very tall tire. this gives them the 320mph runn we all see.....then again they rebuild the clutch EVERY round Again that focal point thing.

Good luck all

Top Fuelers also slip the clutch for up to an 1/8th of a mile, in thier case its spin the clutch or spin the tires. More traction spinning the clutch, cheaper to spin tires.

Yes That is true....what do you think you are doing with your convertor

All I am saying is that I would expect a shorter transmission Life They are slipping the clutch...this would slip the TC and put more strain on the transmission. See the Above example of what a small 327 did to many Th400s..some from the best builders in the country. Heck that was just with a modified Crysler 9.5in 2.2 Turbo convertor. Who knows what STR it was LOL Got a solid 4,200 stall out of it

On second thought it is a great thing!

Been A little slow at the shop

BTW NOTE smiley faces
