How exactly does the B&M ratchet shifter for the TH400 work??
How do you shift it if its a ratchet type setup..one of my friends said its probably to upshift you hit it forward and it will ratchet down into the next gear and to downshift it you push it down and it will ratchet up??
I've always wondered about this...

On my B&M hammer. I have a reverse manual valve body with the TH400. The setup is P R N 1 2 3. The way the shifter is you have full ratchet action from neutral to 3rd gear and back. so when the car is in first gear i just pull back towards me to put it in second and then again for third. to downshift you push it away from yourself towards the front of the car. If you have a regular valvebody it would be the opposite.
Hope this helps

Yea, I'm getting the reverse pattern shifting so I guess that would apply to me...
Where does the ratchet play come into action?

Big,
The shifter can ratchet between any gear from neutral to 3rd gear...what it does is when you say shift from 1st to second you pull back on the shifter towards you. you'll hear a click and wont be able to pull the handle back anymore and then you let go of the handle and it springs back to its original place. You do the same thing for every gear and neutral.
Hope I explained it correctly

So for all the gears you pull down it will ratchet into gear and you have to let it go before you can ratchet into another gear?

That's correct....it works the same way upshifting or downshifting....you pull it to the next geat and it ratchets back to it's original position and it's ready for the next gear

ARE installs these shifters and the Hammer shifters in the cars they do. Both Mikey and Chris Pippy have these type of shifters. I have the Cheetah shifter and I honestly don't like it. Looks to much like a damn race car.
I'm switching over to the Rachet shifter.
