Default Kaboom 10bolt street tires!!!!!

Busted my 10bolt tonight at the track (sumerduck). I was running 275 street tires STOCK 3.42 gears and went to do a small 1st gear burnout and it just dead hooked at 4K rpm dump! bye bye rear. I was able to back it out of the lane in reverse with it kluncking but OMG am i pissed! I am going to try and take it apart and find out exaclty what happend. Till then if anybody can give me advice or if anybody knows someone selling a 6speed (3series??) 10bolt PLEASE let me know. I need this thing back together asap! MUCH THANKS~!

I shifted from 1-2 and kaboom. Not hooking either it started to spin then snapped about 6 teeth off of the ring gear.

This is such a common but sad occurrence. Same boat as many... including me.

I want to change out my R&P, but why, when I go to the track it will end up in the same situation.

I am in mourning LOL. Hey guys I was wondering. I have a set of 4.10s for my 10 bolt *no broke. I was wondering if I could just install my 4.10 and that fix my problem. I don't know anythign about rearends but i'd imagine in order for this to work the damage would have to be limited to only the 3.42 ring and pinion? am i correct about this? Um...as of now i don't know excalty what is broke but later tonight i will check it out. What is the likely hood of me the above being the case (me being able to just slap new gears in and it be fixed?) Thanks for all the MUCH NEEDED help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Installing 4.10's will be weaker than 3.42's. Not to mention it's like 500 buck labor for someone to install them

Here in sacramento it's $475-$575 for gears w/installation. I guess that would make the labor alone around $250-$300.

might be the posi.

Getting a credit card to buy now what you can't afford is not a good idea imo.

Sounds like either axle shafts or a snapped drive pinion. When you turn the drive shaft by hand does the carrier rotate with it? If so then it would have to be broken shafts or pinion gears.

You have takin the posi to a better place. When i leveled my posi it locked the spider gears in the posi and they just shreaded like paper.

I will have a 10 bolt with 3.23 for sale but it is ABS and TCS. Comes with a rear cover and stud kit installed and a new posi that has less than 7k on it.

Well the thing is...the posi rotates around when i turn the right tire. The ring and pinion look perfect but when I rotate the LEFT tire it will spin a couple of rotations and then just LOCK up and make a nasty noise (this is with the car off and me turning the wheel by hand.) Once I start the car it sound 100X worse. I took some videos but can't upload them to my filebox on my satellite connection. I'll upload tomorrow when im back at work. Also note most of the time when i had it in my yard busted it would just pop and rotate and the car wouldn't move then out of nowhere it would catch and start to move for awhile and then pop out again. ????? Ideas?

I bought my whole 10 bolt assembly with 6k miles with 4.10 gears loaded already for $550 shipped and sold my old carrier for $110. Stop F#CKING around with that busted 10 bolt and get a replacemnet for $3-500 and swap it in one day in your garage.

If everything rotates fine inside the differential you more than likely snapped one of your shafts at the splines inside the posi unit. There should be some good writeups on the net about taking your shafts out.
