Default Question about Moser's 9" Housing package

Does this package just basically need a center section to be internally complete?

To be internally complete, yes. You will need the backing plates, brakes ,etc off your old rear plus sway bar hardware to work with the larger axel tubes on the 9".

If youare 4 channelTCS you will need the exciters and also order the big fill plug.

I already have a complete extra 10 bolt with the backing plates, brake stuff, exciter rings, and a sway bar. I can pick up a 3rd member off of ebay for pretty cheap. This would save me quite a bit. Does anyone know if these axles will accept the exciter rings, or do I have to have these machined?

The exciter rings would have to be machined, not worth it, buy the exciters from Moser. Also I would be very cautious buying a 9"center section off ebay.

I was actually thinking I might get a better deal from a local bone yard.

FWIW any old Ford castings will be weak compared to the nodular iron castings of the present day. Saving a few bucks is not worth it since the ring , pinion, bearing will have to be replaced anyway. Cheap is not the way to go.

Even considering that I am only pushing in the mid-to-high 300 rwhp range currently and don't plan on running much over 400 w/ an A4?? I am just on a tight budget and want something that will last and that I can feel comfortable running some drag radials on (even if it means a little extra weight and a little extra drivetrain loss). I figured a stock setup with 31 spline axles and all would be fine.

The stock case is weak by comparison especialy for the power and the weight of our cars. There was a guy here that cracked his 9" case in half because it was a stock case. You should also have the bearings and seals replaced and have all specs rechecked. Can probably save the Ring and Pinion if it is set up well the first time and has not pitting. Also a stock differential is not going to hold up well especialy if it is an open diff. Might be a bit of hassle is all everyone is saying.
