Default For those who have a TRUTRAC

I have been trying to find a Trutrac for my MOSER 12 bolt w/33spline axles and 4.30 gears. 4 series carrier

Problem is, that unit has not been released yet. Moser is the first slotted to receive them and thats not going to happen for another couple weeks, if at all?

Kip at moser said the only other option is to get a 3 series unit and run a thick ring gear.

Is this safe for drag race applications?

My EATON HD800 busted and my car has been on jackstands for almost a month now and I need to get it back and driveable again.

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't know why it wouldn't be safe ? A thick ring gear should be stronger than a thin one ?

Now I'm having a hell of a time finding the thick gear setup. Moser appears to be the only ones who have one. From what I was told, there are only two manufacturers of the thick gear setup, US GEAR and RICHMOND. US GEAR is supposedly on national backorder, and RICHMOND's are hard to find.

Moser has the Richmond, and they said it would be very noisy because it has alot of nickel in it.

I have the Moser with the trutrack and 4.11 gears. I also got the warning but after it arrived. The rear is silent on accel and decell, but at a steady speed at 40mph the rear causes a resonation that fills the car. It is not there thankfully at highway speeds.

The Richmond gears do indeed tend to be noisier than the gears made by US Gear, but you don't have too many choices. You could go with a spool, which is what I am going to do. Bob

I got the same story on the 33 spline, 4 series True Trac last October when I was looking for a replacement to my Eaton HD posi. You should be fine with the 3 series carrier and a thick gear, however, I've never seen a 'thick' 4.30 gear. The 4 series 4.30's were on backorder in Oct. '04 also. Richmond and Motive gear both make them. US Gear re-boxes the Richmonds. Last I spoke to Motive, the 4.30's were discontinued. Are you sure the 33 spline True Trac is even available? All I've seen is the 30 spline, 3 series thus far for the 12 bolts. Also, how well the True Trac will hold up to drag strip launches still remains to be seen. I was nervous about that. Ultimately I sold my 12 bolt because I couldn't find a suitable replacement (other than a spool).
You can always go to Tom's Differentials and have them build you an Eaton with their 4340 heat treated / cryo'd spiders. Thats about $800. Or go to a spool.
Good luck!

LOL......don't get your panties all in a wad. I spent hours on the phone trying to find some 4.3x's last fall and what I found is there are only a few companies that actually make the gears and several others just re-box them. For instance Precision Gear 4.11's are re-boxed US Gears. Moser told me that Richmond was the only 4.30 gear they stock even though almost ALL the other ratios they have are US Gears. And I've spoken to Motive and they have a 4.30 (or had one anyway). Sounds like you have some better info that I do though.....
