4:10's

any dd's w/ 4:10 gears how do you like them for daily driving and hows the mileage?

sslow2000 Oct 5, 2005 04:25 PM

i love the 4.10s... i started with 3.23's and didn't notice any difference going to 3.73's.... but the 4.10s really woke the car up to where i could notice it... i'm also running 28" tall tires, so that takes some of the bite out of it. i cruise on the highway at 2700 or so.... but i also get 11-15 mpg because i can't keep my foot out of it and i have a 3200 stall... :/ so, in other words, i don't mind it at all, but it just depends on what you want to put up with... i dont' drive much on the highway... so it works for me..

My MPG went from like 15 to 14, its not as bad as people come off. I honestly think it was worht the money.

Yup in my A4, im getting like 270 miles to the tank, its a muscle car not a hybrid, so the 4.10s are deffinately worth it.
Your M6 shouldnt be that bad. Good luck.

stangkiller Oct 6, 2005 02:31 PM

well i don't what gas mileage i get, but i can't seem to keep my foot out of the gas :drive: pontiac, what kind of power are you making if you don't mind me asking. a cam package is going to be the next mod for me :)

urbanhunter44 Oct 6, 2005 02:54 PM

They rock, the gas mileage wasn't that bad of a change. The break in was a PITA, but only took 3 days.

grubby98 Oct 6, 2005 04:31 PM

mucle cars=who cares about gas they are suppose to suck it and go fast.

TXStorm Oct 6, 2005 06:15 PM

I love 4.10s.

And the gas mileage isn't as bad as people think, but it depends on what else you have. I have 500+HP with cam and everything else, so mine is not as comfortable as it could be to drive everyday.

If you're just bolt ons and stuff, the 4.10s should be a nice addition. The break in period is also not bad, but you DEFINITELY DO NOT want ram on it before the 300-400 miles are up. Gears are very sensitive.

urbanhunter44 Oct 6, 2005 07:00 PM

I got on mine a little bit after the 300 mark, and they're just fine. I followed the "drive 25 miles and cool for 30-45 minutes" routine for about 480 miles just to make sure, and they're quiet as can be.

The way it was explained to me is that you can give her some gas (dont sit there and brake stand, and don't drag race, just drive normally) and they'll be fine, but if you don't let them cool down you'll toast them QUICK.

I'm very happy with mine, and my shift patterns are a little weird, but a tune is going on next week. I got a dynoshop that will dyno tune my lightly modded car for free!! :)

4.10a are great man...so much fun!!!!

GuitsBoy Oct 10, 2005 09:48 AM

I agree. 4.10 + M6 = great! Milage isnt bad at all since I use 6th gear where I used to stay in 5th.

SSBRONCS Oct 11, 2005 10:11 AM

I love my 4:10 and it's my dd. I think that was a great mod.

Fran D Oct 12, 2005 12:11 PM

4.10s in my daily driver and it's been good. Mileage hasn't suffered much at all, since (as already stated) around town I always have another gear to go into. I've dropped my highway speed by about 5 mph, which translates into a cruise increase of about 200 rpm over my 3.42s. I haven't measured it directly, but I haven't seen much change at all. There's definitely less load on the engine as I see fuel being pulled from FTC 4 (although the baro's been high of late, so I need to see if that has an influence).

Once again, if you drive conservatively, you shouldn't see much difference on a daily level. Get into it and then, well, all bets are off! :D

Orange99Z Oct 13, 2005 08:57 AM

I think they're fine for a dd w/ an m6 and they pull much harder than the 3.42's (duh). I still get about 24 mpg on the highway and use 6th more often.
