Default Synthetic transmission fluid?

Is there any advantage over running synthetic trans fluid over regular? Other then just better against wear and tear? Like performance?

I understand it actually may be worse to run synthetic fluid. From what I heard, synthetic type fluid causes less friction on moving components including the clutches, which is not a good thing. I don't know anybody using it, so I really can't say for sure. The shops that I have asked said not to use it, so I will take their word for it. Hopefully someone else will chime in..

From What I heard Dan is correct. The synthetic stuff is too slippery for our clutch packs and the lock up clutch. A few people have run the synthetic with no problems but for the most part everybody uses the cheap stuff <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

NOT TRUE! too many rumors get started about different types of oils, dino vs. synthetics. synthetic is better period. my fathers is a technician for allison automatic transmissions and they now require commercial users to run synthetic in their trannys or their waranty will be voided. think about, allison automatics are some severe duty trannys. regardless, there will always be poeple that are against synthetic, and those are the poeple that start these rumors for what ever reason.

I have run both (pre-converter) and could tell no functional difference. I'm running non-syn ATF with the converter as that was recommended. I would be interested in more opinions.

I dont think there is supposed to be a "functional" difference. What it is supposed to do is be better at disipating heat, as it does not break down like conventional. If you tried both, did you have a trans temp guage, or ATAP to monitor the differences in heat? Heat will kill the tranny. I recently spoke to a technician who has a tranny business & also teaches transmisions at a college, & he asked me if I ran synthetic, I told him no. He was surprised, & said that it will lower the temp by 20 degrees under load. So, I'll be giving that a try this year.
