Changing to 3.73s - What's needed? I see that SLP offers a whole package (p/n 64046B) that has the 3.73 gear set, a Torsen 3-series carrier, AAM differential cover and an electronic processor to re-calibrate the speedo... I also know that Thunder Racing has a 'complete gear kit' with a choice of Motive or Strange gears (includes RATECH Complete Gear Installation Kit and the TA Performance Rear End Cover Girdle)... Couple of questions: 1) Do I really need the HD Zexel-Torsen Differential? What will it do for me? 2) Which diff cover is 'best' AAM or TA??? And do I really need it? 3) Any real difference between the SLP/GM, Motive and Strange gears??? BTW, I'm probably going to put on some headers, outside chance of installing a blower... As you might guess, I am not a gearhead, so please use small words.... Thanks! Cheers, -- CAMSS |
Re: Changing to 3.73s - What's needed? you already have a 3 series carrier, so you don't need another one. You need: - a gear set - install kit - a way to correct the speedo, this can be w/ the SLP processor, HPP3, or custom programming. T/A covers are nice to have for quick gear lube changes. later, Steve |

Re: Changing to 3.73s - What's needed? Just put 4.10's in mine. After comparing and looking at a lot of info, I decided to go with GM Superior gears W/install Kit & T/A cover. So far so good. Iv'e got about 80 break in miles and they Quieter than the 3.42's that came out! |
