I'll replace my 2.73 gears wit a 3.42.
I have the stock 1998 rear end.
I know I'll need a "thick" or "X" ring because I have a series 2 carrier.

I was told that the yokes installed on the 2.73 have a different diameter and amount of splines that those with a shorter ratios. Is it true??

GM has only one part number for their yokes so I assume they are the same... but I'm nor sure.

Any idea?

No, you will not need a different yoke, it is the same.

I'm doing this same upgrade myself too.

I got 98 also, my came with 3.23.I went up to a 3.42.No problems here, felt a little more pull.Very happy!

hhmm, how easy is the install, i'm considering changin out my 2.73s to some 3.73's or 4.10's... i need somethign to wake up my A4...
