Torque Converter/Rear end questions If I install a Torque converter, should I upgrade my rear end??? Or will the stock rear end be ok? I dont know what gears I'm running, its a '98 TA.....how can I tell if I have 3.73's or not??? Isnt it a code on the door sticker or somethin? Thanks! |
you wont have 3.73s stock TAs didnt come with those you either have the 3.42s, 3.23s. or 2.73s. the 3.23s and 3.42s are GU4 and the 2.73s is GU2 on the sticker on the drivers door. |
the stock gears will be fine on almost any converter south of 4000. Might feel a little loose around town though. If you go bigger than 3000(which you should). I recommend 3.73s. I have 4.10s with a 3000 and wouldnt go any other way. But its not my daily driver either. A lot of people think the 4.10s are too much gear for the auto. But i dont |
Thanks guys! I dont want to go too big, I still want my car to be a daily driver. Just want a nice half and half combo, for daily driving needs/fun. I just didnt want too upgrade to a Torque Converter that would cause too much stress on stock parts. Thanks again for the advice! What size stall should I go with??? 3,000? |
i say 3200 and 3.73s. Awesome street setup! But you should call and talk to whichever brand TC you're gonna get, tell them your needs and setup. They'll tell you exactly what you need. Good Luck |
