Default 3/4 series carrier and Fluid for Eaton Hd?

I just picked up a used 12 bolt and I changing the gears out in it. It came from moser with 4.33's in it. They make alot of noise so I'm putting a new 4.10 in it. How do you know if it is a 3 or 4 series carrier? I've heard 4.10 and up are a 4 series, but can't find it for sure.

Also, most say to use non syn fluid on a Eaton. Alot of guys run syn with the additive with no issues. Why is it recommended to use regular fluild in the Eaton?

Default

If it had 4.33 is has a 4series carrier. As high as you can go is 3.73 on a 4 series. and the 3 series you can only go as low as 3.73.
