Default Rear ticking noise?

I went to go look at the trans am and there is a slight ticking on the rear of the car don't know wether it's the brakes or I heard about the rear differential? How can I tell? Is it expensive? Haven't totally bought it yet, went to see a black trans am that is automatic :Ohno: but its black (my favorite color) and it seems to make the same sound? Dealer said they would take a look at it and fix it, what do you guys think?

umm, if its coming from the rear then your about to break a tooth, go get the cover taken off and have it looked at by a certified mechanic. Trust me, i heard a ticking one night around 1am, didnt care about it and tried to do a burnout..... i said goodnight to about 5 ring teeth and hello to a towtruck.

Well, if its what i said, a new ring and pinion will run about 180$, or u could find a good used pair for 80-120$. and then instalation will run anywhere from 125$-250$

But thats better then shredding the differential and gears, which would run you over 500$

Well, like i said, its better than breaking the whole rearend. Im glad to hear your getting a new car, if i was u and i had to replace the gears. i'd get 373s for an auto and 410s for a manual. You'll love it.
