Default how to find a gear ratio

My friend and I went to do gears on my car this past weekend. One of my other camaro friends gave me his set of what he says are 3.73's that he doesn't want to install. As far as I know and according to my codes on the door my car has 3.23's. When we pulled the gears out of my car we found that the supposed 3.73's were the same as my supposed 3.23's in my car. We also noticed that my rear had been opened and possibly taken apart before. So either my car already has 3.73's or my friend gave me the wrong set of gears and actually gave me 3.23's (which is what I think happened). But how do i tell if he gave me 3.23.s or 3.73's?

Default

Count the teeth and do the math? 42 tooth ring gear, 13 tooth pinion gear - 42/13 = 3.23
