Default Ford 9" pics, what can you tell me?

I just bought this Ford 9" off of a friend for cheap. I know it has a spool, and Moser axles, and 3.70 gears. It came out of a 95 Trans Am.

That's about all I know.

What can you tell me from the pictures? Does it have everything I need to work on my car?

I'm going to change to 4.11 gears, and a posi (probably truetrak).

Can you tell what spline axles it has?

Anything else the pics tell you?

Thanks. I'm totally new to rear ends. (Other than what I've read here so far).

He's not sure. The rear was bought/setup by his brother. And his brother is in the coast guard on a ship somewhere right now.

I wasn't sure if you could tell by the markings on the side of the axles (9 5), or by how big around they look.

Is there any easy way to pull them to check? I did a quick search and didn't find instructions on how to pull them.

Also, what is the big metal attachment with the largest bolts near the middle of the rear?

I haven't seen that on any of the Moser 9" pics I've seen.

That's going to be the torque arm mount. If it's not 31 spline then you'll have to buy some to run a true trac.

Done. 31 spline! Hurray!

Now I just need to find someone who wants to trade a posi or truetrak with 4.11 gears for my Spool and 3.70s plus cash.

Anyone?

Would this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9-for...QQcmdZViewItem be a good deal? I think the current center section in the rear I've got is a "junkyard" piece.

one COMPLETELY REBUILT 9" ford posi in a standard case with NEW MOTIVE 4.11 gears. available in 28 OR 31 spline.

OTHER RATIOS AVAILABLE: 3.25/3.50/3.70/3.89/4.11/4.56/4.86

please inform us of what vehicle it will be for so that we can better serve you by installing the correct yoke(core may be required on some yokes or send us yours and we'll recondition and install it)

(posi is a 4-pinion, spring loaded type with steel friction discs for long life) all internals (bearings, seals, shims etc..) are replaced with NEW parts.

OVER 5000 UNITS SOLD TO DATE AND WE'VE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER 15 YEARS

carries a 1 YEAR WARRANTEE( as long as my recommended break-in procedures are followed and FULL synthetic lube is used)

$455 shipped

Sounds good but if you're gonna run any high HP i've read that you definately want a nodular iron casing, i'm not sure if that is a "standard case", that would be a question to send to the seller. Otherwise that looks like it would work just fine, if you have the option have them install a 1310 yoke so you can retain your stock driveshaft & u-joint, or if you don't mind changing out the u-joint upgrade to the 1350 yoke(thats what comes on the moser center sections).

I should be somewhere around 400rwhp. I don't think I'll end up with much more than that ever.

Right now, my stock ten bolt is fine with drag radials.... Then again, my ls6 clutch won't let me launch hard.

The only reason I'm doing the 9" is that I want 4.11 gears. And I got a GREAT price on it. ($200 from a good friend). He even gave me 2 16" 3rd gen Iroc Z rims for free too (in case I end up getting some REAL tires).

How can I tell if it's a "nodular iron" case? Does the one that I have now look like one (in the pics)?
