Default 4.30s 10bolt what brand?

that is the story...after looking at some rpm calculations and what i would be running in 6th gear at 70 and 80 mph i can definately live with 2200 rpm.

So i am really thinking 4.30s with a large cam in my car.

what brand do you suggest? are the 4.30s going to be weaker than 4.10s?

I have owned the car for 14 months and i have never taken it to the strip yet...so it is not common for this car to see the track or launch hard...just a fun street car.

Thanks
Louie

Definatly Motive gears. Thats the exact gear in my car with 0 noise, and ive seen several sets go in cars with 0 problems. Definatly try those out! I wouldnt worry too much about breaking those if your a street/strip car like mine is.

I dont think it will last, if you put a tire on it. Save up for a 12 bolt or 9"

jeeze, how many times do people actually break the gears?? if they do it's usually set up wrong.
my dad's got 4.30s in his 02 firehawk 6 speed. , the first time out to the track with the stock clutch(car is stock other than gears) and drag radials, it just roasted the clutch off before it would do any damage.
then he put a spec 3 in it, it broke the driveshaft in half and broke the spider gears in the posi unit. Seems to me that spider gears will always break first before the gears actually do. He's got GM 4.30s by the way.

because of the size of the teeth. You cant argue with that, the diff is only 7.5", the higher ratio you go the smaller the teeth get. Its inevitable

has anyone broken the actual gears? on the streets? not launching hard? that is what i would really like to see....

someone say...

"today i was driving down the street at 50mph, a cobra pulled up, i raced him and sheared the teeth of of my gears."

because i have seen plenty of people say and show pictures of their rear ends blowing to a million pieces at the track...

Thanks
Louie

if its just a street car whats the need for 4.30's?.......4.30's and street tires = worthless , believe me i kno lol. if you beat on the car odds are the rear is gunna go and steeper gears will just increase the odds.

hmm..i am putting a TREX clone cam in and think the 4.30s might help with daily driving...but if it is not really suggested i will go ahead and get 4.10s...

Thanks

you dont want to go 4.30's with a 26" street tire. Trust me, you will be WAY overgeared. 1st and 2nd gear will be totally useless also.

On a 5,000 rpm launch with sticky 10.5W's I broke the pinion right off the rear, broke the spider gears, and broke the diff pin in 3 peices. That was with a 3.73.

I will say it did last about 10 passes on the street and lifted the tires about a foot. It broke in the street to it sucked *** gear oil all over the road, I was in the middle of the street and I couldnt move.

thanks for your story either way.

i am thinking about getting motive 4.10s and the installation kit then. where is the best place to purchase?

my 4.30's are US gear................they made the 4.30's for the izuzu trucks that had 7.5 gm 10bolts in them.

I have run deep 11's @ more than 124 on the nitto Dr's many times. My 60' range from 1.75-1.81 slipping the clutch and leaving just above idle.

The secret is not to dump the clutch and avoid serious wheel hop.

Guys, i am not trying to start a fight!!! Just would like to let Louie know that it will work and has worked.

Brian
