2.73's

do these gears really, really suck? i know some people actually like em, and some hated them?

2001NBMZ28 Oct 23, 2006 02:56 PM

IMO no, my car came with them before I started changing things. Loved them on the highway...

TXZ28LS1 Oct 23, 2006 03:38 PM

i know they do good gas. but what bout for track, and street racing? wouldnt 2.73 be more for high end?

2001NBMZ28 Oct 23, 2006 03:58 PM

Wasn't just for gas mileage on the highway, but for the way it downshifted at speed too...anyway, guess it depends what you're shooting for...but they don't really really suck on a stock car for either. :)

well, i plan on doing h/c and 3200 stall. i want 3.73. but wonder how 2.73 will do?

gyrene2003 Oct 23, 2006 04:39 PM

well, ive got 3.23s and i go to the track every once in a while and am definatly going to get a stall after headers are on the car, and i would recommend the upgrade to 3.73s cause how ever well a stall makes ur car with 2.73s, it will be that much faster with a stall and 3.73s. Also, if u wanna keep those gears i would recommend getting a bigger stall.

Armyman2445 Oct 23, 2006 04:53 PM

I used 2.73's with a 3600 stall and turned 1.6 60ft's. The only problem with that is- Everybody knows that a stock 10 bolt is a piece of crap. But with 2.73's it puts all the accel pressure on your transmission not the rear-end. I went through 2 transmissions with my 2.73's and when i changed out to 3.73's I broke my rear after only 3 good hard launches.

TXZ28LS1 Oct 23, 2006 07:18 PM

well, ive talked to sponsors and they said for a street car to just go with a 3200. its never gonna see the track anyways. its a daily driver. i want something nice and tight. i dont see how i can possibly hook on a 3800+ size stall on the street anyways.

I'm planning to keep my 2.73s and get a VIG 3200 stall. I've seen guys run mid to high 11s of course that's w/ heads and cam combo.

Z28/2002 Oct 23, 2006 07:36 PM

See sig for my 1/4 time with 2.73s

GM Muscle is also running in the LOW 10s with 2.73s

TXZ28LS1 Oct 24, 2006 08:36 AM

damn those are good numbers with 2.73. hey do u think 2.73 can hang with 3.73 and 4.10 from a roll?

Ouija Oct 24, 2006 02:19 PM

The biggest difference form a roll is the verter.

Ls1Envy Oct 28, 2006 09:11 PM

I've got 2.73s and ive cut 1.7 60ft with a couple boltons and a 3600 stall.

RevGTO Oct 28, 2006 09:49 PM

I would get the converter first and then see what you think about your gears. I did the opposite because I hated my 2.73's around town. But my car has been hard to launch with the 3.42's. I'm beginning to wonder if I might do better with the softer launch of the 2.73's.

sixvi6-camaro Oct 28, 2006 10:01 PM

I hated my 2.73's when the car was stock. Absolute joke from a dig. I was going to get rid of them and swap for a 12 bolt or S60 ASAP but... After the FLT and the Vig 3600 plus a tune.. whole different story! It knocked .6 of the 1/4 mile and it cuts 1.7's on Dr's with ease. I'm happy enough with the 2.73's now to forget the rearend for now and go with a cam only and some headers as the next mods.

SuperSam Oct 31, 2006 11:22 PM

I was running consistent 11.8-11.7 with 2.73 and 2800 stall. I like them, and they were great on gas.
