Check in the FAQ at the top of the forum -- most vendors recommend between .006” - .010” backlash. The install instructions that came with the gear should also have a spec.

Also check your install kit. I have twice had bad bearings in Ratech install kits that made setting up the gear really difficult.

They said they set the backlash around 10,000 and pinion depth at 3.787. Its a motive install kit. also have new inner and outer bearings.

The depth is determined by the gear, it should have a reccomended depth scribed on it. The backlash sounds fine, usually between .008-.012 for an aftermarket gear, OEMs are tighter.

If you set it up 2 thou tighter than the recommended spec you will get a bunch of whining but will increase the longevity of the gears in a stock rear. Just my .02$
