Another question, when a 10 bolt takes a dump does it put strain on the tranny? Cause if it does'nt then im more tempted to stick with the 10.

I had to get a new transmission on the last blow up.. lost 3rd and OD. When they put the new rear together and test drove it, thats when I got the bad news.

I have pulled a 1.46 60ft on a 100% stock rear and the only suspension mods I have are rear drag shocks. I have also pulled 1.6 and 1.7's 60s a few times. This was with cam 125 shot (about 90rw) and et streets the slick version. The rear probobly wont last through this season but oh well. Im stepping up to a 200 shot this year. I ran about 25 passes last season. I let my buddy borrow the same et streets on his heads cam untuned 6 speed he launched about 4500 and snapped the rear first pass. We'll see how it goes this year with a 200shot and ET Drags. I ran my tires real low pressure and preloaded. Im going to keep preloading and try not to shock the rear to much.

My brother was telling me having a stall actually helps to take strain off of a rear end b/c at WOT the stall slips the RPM up and some of the initial shock is dissipated. How much truth is there to this theory?

dont know much about theory of a stall converter but, 10 bolt will give eventually, especially with slicks.

Just dont beat up your car. I have a VIG 3200 and a stcok 10bolt w/ 130K miles. No problems as of yet. But the most RPM Ive ever launched w/ was 2000RPM. I am also afraid of breaking me rearend.

The randomness of when they blow really sucks. The fact that some guys with M6 and H/C are running fine, while others with stock A4s are grenading them first pass makes it an annoyingly suspenseful gamble. I live an hour from the track, I'm SO looking forward to that sickening day... (puking smiley tastefully omitted)

My factory 10 bolt survived just fine behind the 4L60 in My 570Rwhp SS with the SSF3500. I would pre load the drive line with the foot brake on the launch to lessen the shock. You cannot do this in an M6 car, I have seen bone stock cars break stock rears several times.

Bring a trailer when you go to the track. That M6 is the destroyer of worlds, and your 10 bolt is first on the list.

Well the poll has turned out to be exactly 50/50, but because of this post I am definitely going to install a 12 bolt before I beat on my car. There is NO way I am going to risk breaking my $4K+ built tranny. Thanks for the responses and IMO, 10 bolts belong in a dump!

Just beef it up add aftermarket axles, T/A cover, ARP main cap studs and if you can get the axle tubes welded
