all of a sudden it's hard to put into Reverse! I had a head/cam/header install done and hadn't had a problem with this. This morning I had trouble putting in reverse. Is there anything in the engine bay that would effect this, I really don't understand what's going on. This weekend I cleaned the K&N filter, installed FRC's, and bolted my Strut tower brace. Anyone have this problem of being hard to put into reverse? Joe |
Re: all of a sudden it's hard to put into Reverse! I have a problem with getting it in reverse sometimes, not all the time, I also have a problem with getting it into third when I race(from 1st gear roll or stop, clutch sticks)and a problem getting it into fourth from a 2nd gear roll? |
Re: all of a sudden it's hard to put into Reverse! haha these trans dont like being shifted when cold! Try puting it in fourth gear and then try the reverser. What ever you do dont force it into gear. Sometimes try rocking the car with your body weight to get it to move a bit then try getting it into reverse. If that dont work, engage a forward gear and move the car a few inches. These trans are tempermental finincky bitches, what can you do? Baby it. Yes, its ridiculous and unacceptable but thats just the way it is. Manhandling these trans will get you nowhere. Finesse is the key. Drive it like you dont use the clutch because alot of times the clutch is draggin. Time for a beverage. [ October 01, 2002, 12:33 AM: Message edited by: dug ] |
Re: all of a sudden it's hard to put into Reverse! It is almost impossible to go into reverse by putting the car straight into reverse. Try putting it in another gear first. I always pull towards fourth and you can feel the synchros line up. I don't even pull it all the way into gear, just enough to line them up. That works 19 times out of 20. Every once in a while fourth won't work and I'll throw it towards third, then fourth and then reverse and it goes in easy. The tranny is built for higher hp, its not gonna 'click' into gear like a civic or eclipse (they literally fall into place.) BUT, they don't have to be man-handled either. DO NOT try to force it into gear. If nothing works at all, then throw the car in nuetral, open your door and move the car back a few inches/feet with your foot while pulling towards fourth gear. The sychros will line themsleves up and go right in. FASTFLAMES: if none of that helps then you could have two problems. 1. During your install you pulled the reverse lock-out solenoid out of the transmission. This disconnects reverse but you can still force it in. It is on the drivers side of the tranny. There are two solenoids. Looking at the drivers side of the tranny, the left solenoid is the CAGS solenoid. The next one right of that is the reverse lock-out solenoid. Make sure it is making a good connection. The other problem could be that you have stripped sychros and/or bearings. Hope this helps. It works for me anyway. |
