4.10's in a m6

This is a overall summary of m experience with my 4.10's so far. I've thought long and hard about which gears, 3.73 or 4.10's and finally went with the 4.10's I've asked many people lots of questions so I'll just tell you so far how it's been. I put new GM gears in myself i nmy garage, took 8 hours but made sure everything was perfect. It's been 250 miles so far and no wineing at all, knock on wood. I did not replace bearings, my car only has 13k on it.

The thing I was worried about was tire spinage out the yin yang. Depends on temp, when it's hot they spin, but not as much, as when it's cold, obviously. I only spin is 1st, 2nd just pulls hard. And the gears are not worth less in city driving.

Most of all hows the gas mileage. Well I feel that lower gears WILL increase mileage, I know everyone thinks no but my theroy is they will. And they have in my S10 as well.

Today I drove 89 miles, 45 of them withthe t tops out and windows down. about 60 mph, 6th gear the whole way, easily. Took $10 to fill it which was 3.0 gallons, came out to be 29.6 mpg!!! LAst fall I drove the exact same road with the windows up the whole way tops in, switching from 5th to 6th depdning o nthe hill and got 29.2. Only change besides the gears was I added an exhaust.

So overall, I feel gears will (in most cases) increase gas mileage, and WILL increase driving pleasure. But still make is driveable. Next time the tops are staying in and I bet i'll break 30
