3.73's are in - first impressions... Just had new 3.73's installed (Motives) yesterday. Took the car out today for a spin to see how it likes the new gears - not a BIG difference, but just going from 3.42's to 3.73's is not going to be. However, the rpms do rise noticeably quicker and the car is certainly livelier in the lower gears... and what little utility first gear had is gone completely on the street tires I have on there now *L*. ANYWHERE in 1st that I hit the gas I get instant wheelspin ...time to put the DR's back on I guess. At highway speeds the rpms are up about a couple hundred rpm from where they were before and 6th doesn't seem to lug as much when nailing the gas. And it'll cruise happily in 5th as low as 60km/hr now without lugging either. 4.10's were out for me because it would have meant having to change to 5th in the 1/4 and I don't want that. The guy who installed them is very experienced :hail: and they're set up perfectly - no whine at any speed in any gear! But then Motives have a good rep for being quiet anyway. Again like I said, not a big difference, but I'm certainly pleased with the way the car feels now! Hopefully that'll help translate into some lower ET's this summer too. :burn: |
Re: 3.73's are in - first impressions... i run 4.11s and am "limited" to 130 mph trap speeds on the 27.3" et drags. and on a std size 26" tire at 6600 rpms you are limited to 124 mph. 4.10s (or 4.11s) rock and roll but are a bit muchon the highway for some. :guns: EDIT---------------------------- i just noticed you are running a 6 speed! you are "limited" to 125 mph trap speeds at 6600 rpms and a 26" std tire. i ran 4.56 in my 6 speed. loved it. got 24 mpg. :drive: |
Re: 3.73's are in - first impressions... Yeah, I just got a 3.73 gear in my M6 two weeks ago. Mine are whining like crazy so I am going to switch over to a set of motives this weekend hopefully. But I can definately say that this IS the gear that the M6s should have come from the factory with. The clutch engages better, and it pulls better in 1st gear for sure. But I agree that the difference was not huge. I think if you do a fair amount of drag racing 4.10s may be the way to go, but for a street-tire use M6 I say 3.73s all the way. Have fun with that sucker -Nick |
Re: 3.73's are in - first impressions... Sounds like you're having fun up on the Rock huh Bill? I also am looking into getting gears but I will probably do the 12 bolt thing. |
Re: 3.73's are in - first impressions... i did 3.73's with a moser 12 bolt.they made my car run more consistant et's but not a big gain.with no 12bolt i think 3.73's are the way to go.the 4.10 is a better gear if you have the set up to take it. |
Re: 3.73's are in - first impressions... Sounds like you're having fun up on the Rock huh Bill? I also am looking into getting gears but I will probably do the 12 bolt thing. gator's 99TA - 4.56's?! :hail: I'm not that brave *L*...I was running 115+ traps last year, added a few more minor mods this spring, but this coming year I'll also be adding ported heads as well and... just maybe ;)... nitrous - so even with the raised rev limiter I'd be into 5th gear looks like with 4.10's. So if (when? *L*) I blow up the 10 bolt I may reconsider. Maybe the 3.90's that are an option then...
