a few noises in my Moser 9"

ok well I am completely lost as to why my rear is making these noises, but here goes. When I hit bumps the rear sounds like it is "loose" ( I am talking baout the entire rear) it makes a kind of clunk noise but as I said it just sounds as if it is loose somewhere, I have looked at it, checked some bolts and pushed/ used a rubber malet to try and find out where it is coming from but came up with nothing.

The other noise is sort of random, sometimes when I am driving it will make a very odd noise, though the rear feels solid when you get down on it or normal driving. The noise comes from the driver side and sounds almost like a changing gears sort of sound mixed with a whine. ( like I stated before it is not something I have never heard before and is very hard to describe)

With all that said the rear doesn't feel like it anything a badly hurt, it still feels fine while driving. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Thanks in advance

Make sure the panhard bar and the torque arm are not hitting the sheetmetal of the body. We have to sometimes use a pry bar to gain a little clearance in these areas. Bob

well if you are referring to where the torque arm is bolted to the rear, it has already been done. But I know what you mean. The clunk noise isn't a violent niose, as I said it just sounds loose, I have had the rear/torque arm hit the bottom before and this sounds nothing like it. It sounds as if a bolt somewhere has backed out a little so the rear would move around when I hit a bump.

I am completely lost as to these 2 noises HELP PLEASE!

is the sway bar very close to the mounting point for the t/a

bhz28 06-17-2007 10:23 PM

no it is about the same distance as a stock rear

ahh ok, I don't think my swaybar is hitting the T/A but I will check to make sure. ANy ideas on the other noise? As I described it earlier is about th best I can do, other than maybe a garbled whine?

02NBMWS6 06-18-2007 03:56 PM

do you have rod ended suspension components? I have poly/rod combo all around it and thats exactly how i would describe the noises. Just sounds like there's play in every joint.

Just wish i could find the damn thing thats loose and tighten it! Unofrtunately, nothing is loose :(

bhz28 06-18-2007 04:43 PM

well the knock/clank noise could be the suspension but the other, I really doubt it but I don't know, the wierd garbled niose coming from the driver side rear only happens while driving and it is completely random, sometimes while I am turning others just driving straight......

ttt need help

Do you have the factory torque arm? I have seen them break, as you can see here. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...php?service=58 Bob

bhz28 06-20-2007 11:17 AM

yes I have the factory torque arm and I have a chrome moly one waiting to go in, but the T/A is not broken, thats why I am lost to all these noises. The rear doesn't make noise when I get on it, just when I hit bumps. The garbled whine happens randomly and comes from the driver side. I have checked everything I can think of and have found nothing. Also this may help but the Low Trac light lights up when I hit bumps as well and after it does that a few times ABS INOP light comes on and the ASR OFF at the same time maybe something to do with that?

ttt anyone have any idea?

I have a DLS 9" with a Moser housing. I've been chasing the "phantom clunk" for over a year now. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. I've torqued, retorqued, retorqued, retorqued and retorqued all the bolts/nuts. Then I'll torque them again. I can't find any rub marks or signs of anything hitting. It's basically the same noise and conditions you're describing. I have been told that my poly/rod end PHR and LCAs have something, if not everything to do with it. Looks like I'm in the same boat as 02NBMWS6.

bhz28 06-21-2007 08:13 PM

ok as for the other noise (garbled whine) anyone have any ideas?

this is the part that boggles me. wtf? :bang:

it does't feel loose over bumps, it just sounds loose? if it feels loose it could be a bunch of stuff, but maybe check to see if the springs are seated up top properly? i get a noise over bumps since installing my 9", but its more of a squeak; it comes from the upper mount on passenger side shock.
