Default 10 bolt is dying, What to do...

My 10 bolt is in the process of dying, metal shavings and small small chucks in diff, so looking to upgrade, input would be good, leaning towards 9" but some have said 12 bolt...and if u have any driveshaft lengths for both it would be appreciated, and is there a direct bolt in and if not how much fab needed...thanks

I have a 12 bolt and I got a 3.5" Dia. PST driveshaft and it was stock length.

BTW I also have a built 10 bolt if you're interested.

the 9'' and the 12 bolt has its pros and cons like the 9'' weightless then the 12 bolt rear. I would go with a dana 60 those things so hard to break.

If you have 3 channel brakes the 9" won't be an option unless you do an abs delete and that will cost you more money and time. The 12 bolt I think is a little weaker than the 9" but I have an A4 so for me it should last a long time.

I went with a 9". 9" weighs more, does not have provision for 3 channel ABS, does not have clips for the brake line, and raised the rear of my car about an inch and is rearward in the wheel opening about .75". 9" is stronger than a 12-bolt generally speaking. Stock driveshaft will work with a conversion T thing (can't think of the name).

GM 10 Bolt 7.5" = crap
GM 10 bolt 8.5" (good, cheap, but custom) = good
GM 12 Bolt 8.75" = good, heavy
Ford 9" = better, heavier
Chrysler Dana 60 9.5"= best, heaviest

Default rears

Well 9" is not my bag. We do not do them so I will give info on GM rears.

Sounds like you want to keep ypur car in a stock form then.

Moser 12 bolt housings work great. We buy the housings and put our own guts in to supply a bit cheaper price for guys like you that need a stronger diff option BUT do not want the hassles of fabing every thing to the max.

Seems like you just want a rear that will take all the abuse with no worries about spitting gears and axles out everwhere if you do deside to track it every so often.

We have had pretty good success with the 7.6 newer camaro rear and eaton clutch type posi units and a good set-up set of gears and after market axles help . mid elevens with no problems ... Now if your smacking NOS and above 15psi turbo pressures trans breaks etc.... your going to need a serious upgrade to a larger rear.

your still looking at the very least for a like moser set-up 12 bolt housing 1700-1800.

Yeah well, it isn't like I didn't scratch my head thinking wtf is that thing called... But yeah you need the "u-joint" that adapts the yoke to the stock driveshaft if you aren't replacing the DS.

My old 10 bolt had an Auburn Pro posi, stud kit, and a TA girdle and it ran consistent low 11's with 1.5 and 1.6 60" times. I just upgraded to the 12 bolt for some piece of mind. I still have my 10 bolt sitting in the floor and it still worked perfect up until I took it out of the car. No point here, just making a statment.
