Thumbs up just upgraded to 3.73

Hey guys, I just finished getting my car back from the dealer. I had my cousin take it in because I was getting a whinning noise when I would put it in reverse. Because he works at the Chevy dealership, he had a chance to take it in for me (he's a tranny and rearend specialist). He said it was my gears and that he was gonna have to put in new ones. He asked me if i wanted to go with a bigger set and I said heck yeah. Got some 3.73 from GM. Let me tell u, it's a big difference on the freeway. From 80mph to 130mph, it's a lot quicker, but the RPM are up. I did fix the speedometer with diablo programmer. The only thing I'm not thrilled about is going 80 at 3000 RPM. By the way, the car is a '02 Camaro SS with a A4.

results on rpm and speed will vary with tire sizes too so not everyone will be the same depending on their tire height. I know my LT1 with 3.73s use to do about 2200 at 60 and 26-2700 at 70 if i remember right

It's not the highway driving that kills your gas mileage with 3.73s -- certainly not when your A4's in over drive.

It's all the new fun you have from 0 - 60 that drains the tank quicker!!!

Many choices on gears.

I have Strange and they're not noisy. Had Motives but they really whined after a couple of launches.

If you search through the forum (when the search is working) it seems that the most recommended gears are the US Gear / Strange or AAM/GM gear sets, althought you will find people with both Motives and Richmond that like those as well. Richmond seems to be the noisiest from most posts but I have never owned a set.

Most gear are pretty quite. It all depends on who installs them and how well of a job they do. The only gear i have really heard bad things about is richmond because they are suppose to be a little harder to install for some reason
