much differance 3.42 - 3.73

Well i'm going to get some gears again I took my old 3.42 out last year and I do miss them what a differance between the stock 2.73
so I wana get 3.73 but sence all the driving is freeway I fig I settle for 3.73 will I notice the diferance from 3.42 - 3.73 ?

right now I want the 3.42

IROC403 11-03-2007 07:13 AM

you wont even notice that change. I went from 3.23-342 = not much,
3.42-3.73= almost nothing, now staying with 3.50= seems ideal for a street, strip auto

I love my Edge, it gets the rpms up quick even with my 2.73 the STR makes them seam like 3.73, you hit it off the line and it smokes my tires but it drive almost like stock whe putting around but when you get on it the rpms get up quick.
you love yours

There is a 9% difference between a 3.42 and a 3.73. There is a 25% difference between a 2.73 and a 3.42.
For N/A cars, for the 1/4 mile, the 3.73 is recommended.
Personally, I prefer my 3.42. But that is just me.

I went from 3.42 to 3.73 when I switched to a 12 bolt rear. I am glad I went with the 3.73 gears. Still works good on highway, about 1825 rpm in 6th crusing at 70-72 mph.

I think it takes off much, much better than the 3.42 gears also. I think 4.11 would have been a mistake for my driving habits.

Forget the 3.73's and get the 3.42's

mikenews 11-15-2007 03:31 PM

3.73's will give more money to GEORGE W.!

I went from 3:42's to 3:70's in a 9". Not a tremendous difference but the car takes of better with less chatter from the puck type clutch. At 40MPH, my spedo read 43. Not much difference at all. Overall, I'm happy with my choice.

I went from 3.42 to 3.73 and loving it, and you will feel a differance :D
Soo glad i did not do 4.10's

SS101 11-16-2007 06:27 PM

will you feel a difference, probably not, but you might notice a slight change. will the differences (good differences that is) be more noticable at launch, yes, much more easy to distinguish than tooling around. will you hurt your highway mileage, yes, if that bothers you that much you should drive a prius...is it worth it, if it were my money (and it's not), i would do it.

all things considered, it's what you'll be happiest with.

personally, i wouldn't bother with it until it's time to swap to a 12-bolt/9"/S60

i just can't justify spending money on a 10-bolt that's just gonna end up breaking at one point or another anyway.....

but when you do swap rears, i'd definitely go with the 3.73's
