Default 10 bolt w/ 4.10s sticky tire Q's

I hope this is in the correct location.

I am wondering what people have done with this gear set in their stock 10 bolt. I did upgrade to a locker posi as well.

Which tires did you run and what if any problems did you have with those? I am having a big problem with launching on the road or at the track with street tires but I also dont want to go blowing out the rear end if I stick something too sticky on there. I would not be launching the car above 3k, more so 2k im guessing just to prolong the 10 bolt for now.

What tire did you use?
What RPM would, could you launch at?

Thanks for the help

Friend had 4.10's and nitto drags. Launched at 3,000 and grenaded the rear end. Just put her new cam in and next day at the track we were pushing her car off the track with a floor jack. Needless to say no matter how you look at it, It's just a bad idea to run stickies with a 6 speed and expect that pathitic excuse for a rear end to hold up for any amount of time.

That next week I saved for my new 9" because I expect to do a lot of raceing next year. It is sure much beefier and I am glad I got it.

I have seen 3 people grenade a 10 bolt, 1 was completely stock with a 6 speed.

Yeah i know everyone has some horror stories about rear ends going out. I was just hoping to hear about some people whom havnt had a issue with running some sort of sticky tire. A cammed LS1 is going to be putting down a lot more torque than my bolt on one can to start but I understand that sometimes stock guys can break a 10 bolt.

with only a lid and headers I launched at 5k and up about 30 times with my et street radials before I broke, added 410s and a new posi and only made it two passes.

It amazes how with all the threads available on this topic, some newbies still want to hope and pray their 10 bolt will somehow be different then the rest of the F-Body community. Do yourself a favor, take the hit now up front, and get the rear before you go changing the gears and running sticky tires. You'll be much happier in the long run.

Also I have a Moser 9" with the tru trac posi and 4.11's and have been extremely happy with it.

I agree I would be much happier in the long run with a 9 bolt, 12 bolt, dana rear end since they will not break as easily. However I do not agree with you coming on my thread and bashing me. I do understand this has been covered on other threads so allow me to rephrase what I was looking for.

What would be the best tire to use for traction with a 10bolt and 4.10 gears? Hard part is trying to keep the rear in 1 piece.
Also what RPM would you reccomend launching at with such tire?
Im guessing a nitto555 tire since they are not a complete slick, might be the best for me right now. I would think something that will slip if the torque gets high enough will help save the rear end for a little while at least.

I would like to race the car around while I am saving up for the new rear end is what im trying to get at. But if it is just not a good idea then I need to acept that and move on thanks

He was not bashing you, this topic has just been beat to death over and over on every f-body forum on the web. The only worthy 10 bolt upgrade IMHO is the solid pinion spacer and TA cover, anything else is total waste of money. My 400RWHP Z28 withstood many 3K RPM clutch dumps on my 10 bolt w/ 4.10s with the before stated mods, this was on Cooper 2XS Zeon tires which grab pretty good. I have since sold my 10 bolt and the 9" is in the mail.

The 10 bolt will most likely survive with 4.10's if you dont dump it over 3K RPM, you dont have an agressive grabby clutch, you dont power shift and you do not run sticky tires such as drag radials. Most of the time under hard driving you will be breaking the rear tires loose anyway. Its that killer hook with stickies that causes the ring gear to shear teeth.

The ten bolt will be stronger with the 3.42's and the automatic cars will have even greater success at not grenading it. Do not use anything other than street radials with a 4.10 10 bolt with an M6 or plan on pushing or towing.

I was at the pinks all-out event a couple of weekends ago with 26" slicks(yeah I know ) and sticky track. Launched a couple of times and bogged terribly, then tried to launch at 4k. BOOM. I snapped the driver side axle. My rear was 100% stock. I have a BMR TA and LCA's.

I was tried to be easy and finally said screw it after the 1st 2 terrible runs.

This was with a LS7 clutch, and I didn't hit the N2O (75shot) until 3600rpm. So it was near stock HP and the 3rd run down the track.

I got lucky and only took out the axle. I will never go out to the track on the 10 bolt again. I need to figure out what I want to do with the car. I have a lot of miles on her, the tranny has performance rebuild so it is good, but the rear needs to be better and that is big $$ if I figure in a new built engine.

Here is what sucks. I was trapping at 110mph(even after nearly killing the car it bogged so bad and rolled up from 400rpm talk about rolling outta the hole). That is roughly a 12.5 assuming a 1.8ish 60ft( i think, the elevation is 3200ft.). Those are the times they selected for the event! There weren't many cars there running those times, so I would have had a good shot! They went for the slower cars because everyone else was trying to dial 10.5 and it was pissing the Pinks people off. they probably had 250 cars running mid 10s.

haha nice. I trap 110 also but like you said without stickies no way can i get a 12.5.

Alright so purchasing some kind of tire stickier than a street tire is just asking for trouble. I guess the hunt for a 12 bolt or 9 inch will move to the top of the list.

Sorry for asking the dumb question again.

I've got the 10 bolt with 4.10 gears in it, running nitto drag radials, textralia clutch, along with 410 rwhp / 392 rwtq.

Best 60' is 1.84, I drive it hard on the street as well. Just slip the clutch and don't launch too high and you should be fine.
